Wildschut & Brauss

Introducing Noa Wildschut and Elisabeth Brauss, a duo that is lighting up the stages of Europe with elegant and engaging music-making. This is chamber music at its best: intimate, enchanting and courageous.

Not one new discovery, but two! Hiding in plain sight in the great halls of Europe, violinist Noa Wildschut and pianist Elisabeth Brauss make one of the most exciting musical partnerships heard in years, and Musica Viva Australia is thrilled to present their first Australian concerts.

Violin and piano is a classic combination, capable of both great intimacy and intensity – no wonder audiences and composers have loved it so much over the last two centuries (and counting). Melbourne composer, May Lyon, adds a fresh voice to this grand repertoire with a brand new work for the duo. Noa and Elisabeth’s musicality lights up the stage the way a meteor can spark through the night – a magical experience to be treasured forever.

"Performances of refined sensitivity, reverence and understanding"
— Sydney Morning Herald
"From the opening bars it was evident that this concert was going to be something special"
— Daily Telegraph
"A shimmer real and imagined — from the quicksilver flashes of Wildschut’s Dominique Peccatte bow, and in the electric pace of the sound — had a cognoscenti audience on the edge of their seats to the last strident chords."
— The West Australian

May Lyon

Composed in the leafy outer east of Melbourne, May Lyon’s music explores deep human emotions, representations of nature and mathematical concepts, as well as the lighter side of life. Stylistically eclectic, Lyon's compositions move from dramatic and intense, to quirky.

Lyon was a finalist for the 2023 Art Music Awards' Work of the Year: Dramatic for the ballet Precious Bedeviller aka One Person Watching, commissioned by The Australian Ballet and choreographed by Timothy Coleman. Lyon is the 2023 Ensemble Offspring Noisy Women Commission Recipient and is currently studying for a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Sydney as part of the Composing Women Program.

Previously, Lyon's music has been performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Tasmania University Orchestra, National Capital Orchestra, Sydney Dance Company Pre- Professional Year with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows, Ensemble Goldentree, and Forest Collective.

Commissioned by Christine Bollen and Friends, May’s new work will be premiered by Noa Wildschut and Elisabeth Brauss on their national tour.
